Ron Perlman Says He'd Still Play Hellboy for Guillermo del Toro
Ron Perlman told Deadline he would return as Hellboy for a third Guillermo del Toro film, even at 86, and isn't interested in other versions.
Ron Perlman said he would still return as Hellboy for a third film if Guillermo del Toro comes back to direct, according to Deadline. The actor said the original Hellboy movies were meant to be a trilogy, and that he has no interest in any other version of the character besides finishing that trilogy with del Toro.
Perlman also addressed the question of time. He said he is 76 now and would still make the film at 86 if del Toro approached him. He declined to comment on the state of any recent talks with the director, leaving that part of the conversation closed.
The first Hellboy film arrived in 2004 and fell flat with audiences. Del Toro used the clout from the Oscar-winning Pan's Labyrinth to make 2008's Hellboy II: The Golden Army, which fell short of expectations and seemed to end the planned trilogy.
In Hellboy II, the story left off with Liz Sherman pregnant with twins, and the promise of Hellboy being summoned to destroy the world was never addressed.
The franchise later moved on without Perlman. David Harbour starred in the 2019 Hellboy reboot, and Jack Kesy led 2024's Hellboy: The Crooked Man.
