An exclusive trailer has been released for Rose, the historical drama starring Sandra Hüller as a woman who disguises herself as a male soldier after the Thirty Years' War. Markus Schleinzer directed the film.
Rose premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in February, where Hüller won the Silver Bear for best lead performance. The film later made its North American premiere at Telluride, where Hüller received a Tribute Medallion.
Schleinzer conceived the idea after a friend told him that 250 years earlier a woman had been executed for living as a man. He and Hüller first met on the set of the 2023 German black comedy Sisi & I, where she was his co-star.
The film was shot on location near the East German border with original sets, with Gerald Kerkletz handling the black-and-white cinematography. The trailer arrives via The Hollywood Reporter.
