Russell T. Davies Details Cancelled Doctor Who Season 3 Plans

Davies' autobiography The Queerest of Folk reveals scripts for a Great Fire of London story, a Dalek epic and a Rogue return.

Russell T. Davies has revealed his plans for the cancelled third season of his Doctor Who era in his autobiography The Queerest of Folk, according to screenrant.com.

Three scripts for the season were fully written. Among the planned episodes was a story set during the Great Fire of London, written by Laurence Clark and Jack Thorne.

Lydia Adetunji wrote a horror story set on a NASA-type space station centred on trypophobia. Sharma Angel-Walfall wrote an episode set on a council estate in Manchester.

Davies also wanted Juno Dawson to return for another story, and discussed bringing Jonathan Groff back as Rogue in an eighties-set story possibly located in Blackpool with video arcades. A four-part Dalek epic was planned to close the series.

What Davies has said about the partnership

In October last year, Deadline interviewed Disney and BBC executives who said the failure of the Doctor Who partnership had been apparent for quite a while. Davies suggests the writing was on the wall before his second season had even aired, and that the BBC and Disney held off on the announcement until afterwards so as not to damage its performance, and has claimed the Daleks were coming back for the cancelled Christmas Special. Doctor Who is currently on a break.
