Sami Hawka Seeks Partners for 'While Everything Falls'

Peruvian filmmaker Sami Hawka is developing the feature film 'While Everything Falls' (Afuera Todo Arde), and is now seeking international co-production partners and funding for the project, according to Variety.

The film is being developed by Peruvian production company FILMA+ as an international co-production. Casting remains open, and discussions with potential producers are underway.

Set in a conservative rural community in contemporary Peru under a fictionalized dictatorship, the plot follows two members of a polyamorous triad who marry to keep up appearances, are exposed by their third lover, flee to the capital, and join a rebellion against the dictatorship.

Development momentum

After development had stalled, Hawka says the project has recently taken a giant leap forward. The project was selected for the Vancouver International Film Festival's Business Hub Co-Productions Forum and for the Queer Palm Lab, an LGBTQ-focused development program associated with the Cannes Film Festival.

Hawka, a nonbinary person with Indigenous roots, spent a significant part of their childhood in Cusco, Peru, attending an intercultural school where they learned Quechua and connected with Indigenous elders and spiritual traditions.
