'Sea of Glass' Gets Thessaloniki Screening Ahead of Greek Release

Alexis Alexiou's third feature screens at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival before opening in Greek cinemas on November 12.

Alexis Alexiou's third feature, "Sea of Glass," will receive a special screening at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival ahead of its limited theatrical release across Greece on November 12, according to Variety.

The film stars Evangelia Andreadaki as Vangelio and Christiana Matelska Toka as Vicky. Alexiou wrote the screenplay with Afroditi Nikolaidou, and Greece's Tugo Tugo Prods. produced it, with Portokal of Bulgaria and Bark Like a Cat Films of Cyprus as co-producers.

"Sea of Glass" premiered out of competition at Edinburgh before its Thessaloniki booking. Alexiou's previous feature, "Wednesday 04:45," premiered at Tribeca.

The story is set in Chalkida, the capital of the Greek island of Evia, and was inspired by "The Postman Always Rings Twice," "Cape Fear" and "Thelma & Louise." The screenplay began as a one-day treatment written by Nikolaidou.

The area where the film was shot was once swamp, until developers attempted to reclaim the marshlands in the 1970s.
