Shawn Levy Turns Down Days of Thunder 2 for Ghost Rider

Paramount Pictures and Tom Cruise aggressively courted Shawn Levy to direct Days of Thunder 2, but the filmmaker turned the offer down, according to a report. Levy instead chose to work with Ryan Gosling on Marvel Studios' Ghost Rider.
The sequel already has a release date locked in: June 2, 2028. Over the summer, Days of Thunder 2 was officially announced with Cruise and Anne Hathaway as leads and Jonathan Levine set to direct from a script by Will Staples.
Levy remains busy in the franchise space. He is also directing the Gosling-led Star Wars: Starfighter film, and Cruise previously visited that set to help with a lightsaber duel sequence.
In a recent Entertainment Tonight interview, Cruise called Hathaway talented and described the plot as a fun story. Hathaway said her film Verity comes out October 2nd and that she will take time off before joining Cruise on the track in March.
