Jason Segel Says Shrinking Has Room to Continue Past Season 4

Segel says the team has cracked a new set of story, but Apple TV+ has not formally ordered a fifth season of Shrinking.

Jason Segel said the creative team behind Shrinking believes the series can keep going, though Apple TV+ has not formally ordered a fifth season. Segel, the show's lead actor, writer and executive producer, made the comments in an interview with The Direct while promoting Over Your Dead Body.

Segel said the team keeps saying they will continue Shrinking as long as they can think of worthwhile material and are having a good time. He added that they have cracked a whole new set of story that makes him feel the show could go on for quite a while.

The series, co-created by Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein, was originally conceptualized as a three-part thematic trilogy, with Season 1 on grief, Season 2 on forgiveness and Season 3 on moving forward. In the Season 3 finale, Jimmy began moving forward with his life and Paul retired and moved to Connecticut.

In January 2026, Apple TV+ officially renewed Shrinking for Season 4 before the Season 3 premiere. Bill Lawrence has indicated Season 4 will be a different chapter and is expected to feature a two-year time jump.
