Apu has a new voice on The Simpsons. Sunil Malhotra voiced the character in season 38, episode 3, titled "Treehouse of Horrors Presents: The Revengening," marking Apu's first speaking appearance in nine years, according to screenrant.com.
The episode also brings back Apu's wife, Manjula, voiced by Janina Gavanakar, and sees the Kwik-E-Mart reopen.
The recast was kept under wraps ahead of release: no screeners were shared before the episode aired, and NDAs covered the table read and production.
Executive producer Matt Selman said more Apu appearances are planned.
Background
Hank Azaria previously voiced Apu. The character has appeared in episodes since the season 29 premiere, "The Serfsons," in 2017, but has not spoken since then. The Simpsons premiered in 1989 and is now in season 38.
