Sofia Coppola Plans Return to Narrative Filmmaking After Marie Antoinette Doc

Speaking at the BFI London Film Festival, Sofia Coppola said she wants to get back to writing and directing narrative films after completing Making Marie Antoinette.

Sofia Coppola said she plans to return to writing and creating narrative films, speaking at a BFI London Film Festival session on Thursday. The director appeared at the festival as Making Marie Antoinette, a documentary she assembled, screens at the event's 70th edition.

Making Marie Antoinette was put together by Coppola and editor Aaron Matthews from footage shot by Eleanor Coppola. Eleanor Coppola, who died about two-and-a-half years before the article, asked before her death that the film be finished, and she captured over 80 hours of behind-the-scenes material while her daughter directed Marie Antoinette in 2006.

Coppola's narrative features include The Virgin Suicides in 1999, Lost in Translation in 2003 and Marie Antoinette in 2006. More recently, her Marc Jacobs documentary screened at the Venice Film Festival last year, according to hollywoodreporter.com.
