Sony Stops Reporting Domestic Box Office for Klara and the Sun

The Taika Waititi film stayed in 880 theaters over Halloween weekend, but trackers give conflicting figures for its second frame.

Sony Pictures Releasing has stopped reporting domestic box office results for Klara and the Sun, according to Variety. The move follows the film's weak second weekend in theaters.

Klara and the Sun continued to play in 880 domestic theaters over Halloween weekend, but the trackers do not agree on what it earned. Box Office Mojo reports $45,000 for the weekend, a 93.6% drop from the opening frame, while The Numbers reports $145,000, a 79% drop. Several outlets carried no second-weekend figures for the film at all.

Per The Numbers, the film's cumulative global total stands at $1.84 million after 10 days in theaters.

Variety's report says the film received a smaller-scale release than planned because of poor reviews. Klara and the Sun is directed and co-written by Taika Waititi, with Jenna Ortega playing Klara, and is adapted from Kazuo Ishiguro's novel. The cast also includes Amy Adams, Natasha Lyonne, Mia Tharia and Steve Buscemi. Columbia Pictures, Spyglass Media Group, 3000 Pictures and HarperCollins Publishers are among the production companies.

The film debuted on October 23, 2026, with a 3-day domestic gross of $701,000. It has earned less than $2 million worldwide against a reported budget of at least $20 million, and a report said its planned theatrical release in Spain was cancelled.
