Stallone Recalls Father's Rocky Cameo Gone Wrong
Sylvester Stallone says his father's botched bell-ringing cameo in Rocky led to a nasty on-set fallout, a story he tells in his new memoir The Steps.
Sylvester Stallone has revealed that he gave his father, Frank Stallone Sr., a cameo in the climactic match of the 1976 film Rocky — as the bell ringer. But the gesture did not go as planned.
According to Stallone, things on set got really nasty after his father failed to ring the bell properly during filming. The actor shared the story ahead of the release of his memoir, The Steps, which arrives on Oct. 23.
Despite the on-set friction, Stallone said he and his father reconciled before Frank Stallone Sr.'s death in 2011.
The family history is also the subject of a new biopic. I Play Rocky, starring Anthony Ippolito as a young Sylvester Stallone, premieres in theaters on Nov. 6.
