Matalas: Patrick Stewart Was Open to Picard Return in Star Trek: Legacy
The showrunner said Stewart wanted a recurring role sending mission briefings to Seven of Nine in the unmade series, which was never greenlit.
Terry Matalas said Patrick Stewart was keen to reprise the role of Jean-Luc Picard for the proposed series Star Trek: Legacy, in a recurring supporting part rather than as the lead. Matalas made the comments on Dropping Names with Brent and Jonny, the show co-hosted by Brent Spiner and Jonathan Frakes, according to /Film.
In Matalas's account, Stewart's Picard would have appeared periodically to deliver mission briefings to Seven of Nine. Matalas, who ran the third season of Star Trek: Picard, described Legacy as a vehicle for new, younger characters rather than a continuation of The Next Generation.
He also mentioned a planned storyline involving Worf, his son Alexander and the Klingons. The unmade series was never greenlit, Matalas said, despite Stewart's interest.
How Picard season 3 set up a follow-up
Star Trek: Picard's third season ended with Seven of Nine promoted to captain of the USS Enterprise-G, Raffi as her first officer, Jack as an ensign and a cameo from Q. By 2024, Matalas knew Star Trek: Legacy would not be made; the story later continued in comic book form.
Matalas went on to work on the Marvel Cinematic Universe series VisionQuest.
