Sydney Sweeney says HBO's The Players Table still moving forward
The series, based on Jessica Goldman's novel They Wish They Were Us, is not expected to release before 2028.
Sydney Sweeney has given an update on The Players Table, saying the HBO series is continuing to move forward toward production, according to screenrant.com. The project is her follow-up to Euphoria.
The series is based on Jessica Goldman's bestselling novel They Wish They Were Us. It is set at an exclusive prep school on Long Island's Gold Coast and centers on a secret society called The Players and a murder mystery.
The Players Table is a co-production between Sweeney's Endeavor Content, Jean-Marc Vallée's Crazyrose and distributor Fifth Season. It is being developed for HBO and is not expected to be released before 2028.
The project has been in development for six years and was hit by delays earlier this decade. Jean-Marc Vallée, an executive producer, died in 2021, and lengthy Writers Guild of America strikes in 2023 cast doubt over the series' development.
During the last two years Sweeney told Collider the project is still moving forward and aimed at her generation. Euphoria aired its series finale in May. Sweeney also has 2027 feature releases The Housemaid's Secret, The Custom of the Country and Gundam lined up.
