Tallinn Baltic Event Sets 16 Works in Progress for Nov. 19 Pitch
The 16 projects were chosen from more than 100 submissions worldwide and will all be pitched on a single day for the first time.
Tallinn's Baltic Event has selected 16 works in progress to pitch on Nov. 19, drawn from more than 100 submissions worldwide, according to Variety. The lineup includes new films from Darko Lungulov, Ernestas Jankauskas, Josh Trigg and Marina Palacio.
The selection is divided into three strands: Baltic Event Works in Progress, International Works in Progress and Just Film Works in Progress. For the first time, all 16 projects will be pitched on the same day, Thursday Nov. 19. The Baltic Event closing ceremony follows on Nov. 20.
The International Works in Progress section includes Palacio's directorial debut "And Thus It Will Go On," Trigg's "Leopard Spots" and Théo Gottlieb's feature debut "Luci Looped in Limbo." Saulius Baradinskas will pitch his own feature debut, "Concrete Music."
Works in progress co-managers Kärt Väinola and Helen Räim said family and parent-child bonds run through this year's selection.
Earlier recognition for the filmmakers
Palacio's "And Thus It Will Go On" won the most promising project award at the Tallinn-Baltic Event Script Pool in 2022. Trigg's earlier film "Satu-Year of the Rabbit" was Bafta-nominated and took the top accolade at the Nara Int'l Film Festival; after that win, Japanese director Naomi Kawase and the Nara founder invited him to direct "Leopard Spots" in Japan. Baradinskas was a Golden Lion candidate in Venice for his short "Techno Mama."
