'The Debut,' written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg and starring Julianne Moore, had its New York premiere Wednesday evening at Alice Tully Hall as part of the New York Film Festival, according to Variety.
Moore plays Mona Friedman, a timid housewife in 1990 Central Jersey who auditions for a role in a community theater production of the musical 'Nosy Neighbors.' The cast also includes Halle Bailey, Colton Ryan and Paul Giamatti.
Eisenberg said during a post-screening Q&A that he modeled Mona's journey after the community he found doing local theater.
The film is Eisenberg's third feature as director. He previously directed 'A Real Pain,' for which he won an Oscar, and his directorial debut also starred Moore.
Emma Stone and Claire Danes were among those in attendance at the NYFF screening.
