TIFFCOM Expands Tokyo IP Market as 24 Projects Join Gap Financing
Ten IP holders, including Kadokawa, Shochiku and Toei, will take meetings with international producers, while 24 projects were picked for the financing market.
TIFFCOM has announced a larger lineup for its Tokyo IP Market: Adaptation & Remake (TIPM) and named the 24 projects selected for this year's Tokyo Gap Financing Market (TGFM), according to deadline.com.
TIPM brings together rights holders of Japanese manga, audiovisual works, novels and games for one-on-one meetings with international producers. Participation has grown from six to ten IP-holding companies this year, including Amuse Creative Studio, Kadokawa, Nippon Animation, Shochiku and Toei.
Eight of those companies will also take part in an open pitch event presenting flagship IP, with audiovisual support from Imagica Group.
Co-productions and partnerships
The 24 TGFM selections include Vincci Cheuk's Hong Kong-Japan co-production 38.83, Boo Junfeng's Trinity and François-Marc Baillet's animated feature Back To Tomioka. Five projects came through a partnership with Canada's Frontières genre market and three through a partnership with Italy's Cinecitta.
TGFM talk sessions will cover Japanese support schemes, including grants for international co-productions from the Agency for Cultural Affairs, alongside funding from Canada and Brazil. TIFFCOM CEO Yasushi Shiina and managing director Kaori Ikeda are quoted on the market's goals.
In March 2026, Japan was designated Country of Honour at the Marché du Film in Cannes and launched the Japan IP Market, a three-day initiative co-hosted by the Marché and TIFFCOM.
