Titan1Studios to Adapt Hudson's Bay Book as TV Drama 'House of Hudson'

The 1820s-set series will centre on the rivalry between the Hudson's Bay Company and the North West Company, with a showrunner search now underway.

Titan1Studios has acquired media and adaptation rights to Stephen R. Bown's book The Company: The Rise and Fall of the Hudson’s Bay Empire and is developing a TV drama series titled House of Hudson based on it, Deadline reported.

The series is set in the 1820s and focuses on the rivalry between the Hudson’s Bay Company and the North West Company, a conflict that ended in their forced merger. It will also depict the rise of Sir George Simpson, the governor nicknamed “The Little Emperor.”

A search for a showrunner for House of Hudson is underway. Titan1Studios CEO Rathan Moorthy and VP of Content Wes Ambrecht are leading the project.

Rights negotiations were handled with Jake Babad and Caroline Vassallo at Westwood Creative Art.

Bown's The Company: The Rise and Fall of the Hudson’s Bay Empire was published in 2020 and won the 2021 National Business Book Award and the J.W. Dafoe Book Prize.
