Tomi Adeyemi's 'The Siren' NYCC Panel Pulled From Schedule

Tomi Adeyemi's previously announced New York Comic Con panel promoting her book 'The Siren' has been canceled. The panel was quietly removed from the NYCC schedule last month, according to a Variety source.

The panel had been scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10 at 1:30 p.m. ET at the New York Javits Center. Adeyemi, CAA and Macmillan Children's Publishing Group did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The cancellation follows Adeyemi's public remarks earlier this year criticizing the film adaptation of her novel 'Children of Blood and Bone' in a TikTok video. In a recent interview with The Guardian, she said the experience left her wanting never to turn another novel into a film again, calling the creative process "the worst thing I have ever had to live through."

Adeyemi also told The Guardian she is "still being antagonized behind the scenes" and described suffering severe somatic pain and panic attacks after filming wrapped. She previously posted a since-deleted TikTok video featuring what appeared to be a group chat including star Amandla Stenberg, according to the L.A. Times.

Stenberg's casting drew controversy over casting a mixed-race actress for a character described as having "dark copper skin" in the books. 'Children of Blood and Bone' is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and stars Stenberg, Thuso Mbedu, Damson Idris, Cynthia Erivo, Lashana Lynch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Regina King, Idris Elba and Viola Davis.
