Tulsa King Kills Off Cal Thresher and Margaret Devereaux in Season 4 Premiere
Neal McDonough confirmed his character Cal Thresher is dead after an off-screen plane crash in the Season 4 opener, "W.W.D.D."
Tulsa King opened its fourth season by killing off two characters: Cal Thresher and Margaret Devereaux die in an off-screen plane crash in the premiere, Episode 1, titled "W.W.D.D." Neal McDonough, who played Cal, confirmed to movieweb.com that his character is really dead.
In the episode, Margaret, played by Dana Delany, and Cal board Cal's private jet for a conference. Everyone on board passes out before the plane goes down over the Pacific. The premiere leaves it unclear whether the crash was an ordered hit or an accident.
McDonough said Sylvester Stallone, who plays Dwight Manfredi, told him his character would die in the first episode of the season. The actor added that he had lobbied for Cal's story arc to continue and suggested a spinoff.
The deaths open space in the show's power structure. Bradley Van Heusen, described as a tech bro, could benefit from the deaths, while Amanda Clark, played by Gretchen Mol, wants Cal's gubernatorial seat. Quiet Ray is involved in Dwight's troubles, and Bill Bevilaqua is back as a power player.
Tulsa King has featured brutal, graphic deaths over its past three seasons, and McDonough played Cal for two seasons and into the third. The series premiered on Paramount+ on November 13, 2022.
