Tynion Says He's Now Directly Involved in Blumhouse's Something Is Killing the Children

The creator told Entertainment Weekly he is more hands-on with the Blumhouse live-action movie and adult animated series than before.

James Tynion IV has given an update on Blumhouse's adaptations of Something Is Killing the Children, telling Entertainment Weekly that he is now much more directly involved in their development than he was earlier on.

Tynion also said Jason Blum has been a huge advocate of the series. Blumhouse is developing the title as both a live-action movie and an adult animated series, according to bloody-disgusting.com.

The creator said the potential exists to see Erica Slaughter come to life in multiple ways, and that there is more in development in the Slaughterverse beyond the Blumhouse movie and animated series.

Earlier attempts and the Slaughterverse one-shots

In 2021, an adaptation of Something Is Killing the Children was in development at Netflix with Mike Flanagan involved, but the project stagnated. Last year, Blumhouse confirmed it was adapting the comic as both a live-action movie and an adult animated series. Blumhouse previously adapted the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise into two live-action movies and has been working on a live-action Spawn movie for years, a project that has languished.

Tynion created the one-shots Book of Slaughter, Book of Butcher and Book of Cutter, which laid out much of the series mythology. He said the one-shots were partly prompted by sitting in the first writers' room for Something Is Killing the Children before the Archer's Peak story had finished.
