Verity Tops Box Office as Digger Struggles and MCU Exits Top 5
Verity opens at No. 1 with a projected $32.6 million, while Tom Cruise's Digger posts his worst debut in 18 years at No. 5.
Verity opened at No. 1 at the domestic box office with a projected 3-day gross of $32.6 million, according to Screen Rant. The weekend's other wide release, Digger, debuted at No. 5 with a projected $8 million, marking Tom Cruise's worst debut in 18 years.
Avengers Endgame: Encore fell from No. 1 to No. 7 with an 83% decline, the worst sophomore drop for an MCU movie. As a result, no Marvel Cinematic Universe film appeared in the domestic Top 5 for the first time in nine weeks.
The last weekend without an MCU movie in the domestic Top 5 came in July. Prior to that, 2026's Spider-Man: Brand New Day debuted at No. 1 and held the position for six consecutive weekends before being knocked out of the Top 5 during its ninth weekend by the re-release Avengers Endgame: Encore.
Also in recent weeks, Forgotten Island debuted at No. 5 with a lukewarm opening and dropped 45% to No. 6 in its second weekend. Upcoming releases include Other Mommy, Whalefall, Sense & Sensibility, and Clayface.
Avengers: Doomsday arrives on December 18.
