Roth Says She Sent New Divergent Book to Film Contacts
Author Veronica Roth says The Sixth Faction has gone to the people it needed to reach about a possible adaptation, though books remain her focus.
Veronica Roth has addressed the possibility of a film adaptation of her new book The Sixth Faction, set in a reimagined Divergent universe. Roth said she sent the book to the people she needed to send it to regarding a possible adaptation, but that she is focused on books as her preferred medium, according to screenrant.com.
Roth also said she has finished writing the second book of the duology, titled The Last Testimony, which is set to release in February. Once the duology is complete, she said, the Divergent series feels nice and closed for now — adding, "don't ever say never."
An earlier adaptation history
Divergent was published in 2011 and spent 47 consecutive weeks on the New York Times bestseller list. In 2014, Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment released the film adaptation, followed in 2016 by the sequel The Divergent Series: Insurgent.
A third adaptation, Ascendant, was cancelled. After that cancellation, Lionsgate approached the team about turning the novel into a TV movie for Starz, but Shailene Woodley and Theo James declined to reprise their roles.
