A new 4K restoration of Luchino Visconti's final film, L'Innocente, has received an exclusive trailer ahead of a theatrical rollout that begins December 11. IndieWire debuted the trailer.
Film Movement Classics restored the film for its 50th anniversary. The new 4K digital transfer was made by Italy's Cinelab Service on an Arriscan film scanner from the original camera negative.
The restoration has already screened at Cannes Classics and at the New York Film Festival. The film stars Giancarlo Giannini as Tullio Hermil, Laura Antonelli as Giuliana and Jennifer O'Neill as Countess Teresa Raffo, with Marc Porel as Filippo.
A final film and an unfinished cast list
L'Innocente loosely adapts Gabriele D'Annunzio's 1892 novel. Visconti had wanted Alain Delon and Romy Schneider for the leads, and Charlotte Rampling was also considered for the film.
Visconti died in March 1976, two months before the film's premiere at Cannes. He had suffered a major stroke a few years before production.
