VisionQuest Episode 7, titled "Immolation", introduced Dr. Phineas T. Horton to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, according to comingsoon.net. The episode revealed that Vision's human face originates from Horton.

The episode opened with a flashback set in 1939 that told Horton's origin story. In it, Horton built a synthetic creation named JIM as a replacement for his dead son, James.

Paul Bettany played Horton, JIM and both versions of Vision in the episode. Horton and JIM died when JIM burned both of them following an argument over JIM's relationship.

The episode also showed Vision transforming into his original colors with a more comic-accurate look.

Horton's place in the series

In Episode 4, the series described Horton as the "great-grandfather of robotics" and the creator of the first AI automaton. The show has also established that the AI personas in Vision's Mindspace were modeled on real people: Tony Stark modeled JARVIS after Edwin Jarvis, based FRIDAY on Allison Hogan, and drew EDITH from test pilot Edith Marks.

In Marvel Comics, Ultron built Vision from Jim Hammond's recovered body.
