VisionQuest Reveals Butcherbird Killer as Jocasta in MCU Debut

Episodes 3 and 4 of the Marvel series introduce T'Nia Miller as the synthezoid Jocasta, built from Markridge Tech research later acquired by Stark Industries.

Episodes 3 and 4 of VisionQuest reveal that the Butcherbird Killer is Jocasta, a synthezoid based on Dr. Josephine Carrington, marking the character's first live-action appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, according to comingsoon.net.

T'Nia Miller portrays Jocasta. The character was created by Markridge Tech, an AI research company later acquired by Stark Industries, and her name is formed from "JoCa" for Josephine Carrington plus "Sta" for Stark technology. Carrington was part of the Markridge Tech research team and reportedly died of natural causes in 2008.

During a gala confrontation, Vision addresses her as Josephine Carrington, and her human avatar briefly surfaces. Ultron later manipulates Jocasta into incinerating the scientist she had come to kill.

Showrunner Terry Matalas told Collider that the character was deliberately kept out of much of the show's promotion.

A different origin from the comics

In the Marvel Comics, Ultron created Jocasta using Janet Van Dyne's likeness as a robotic bride. In the series, Markridge Tech created the first conscious AI before Stark Industries acquired the company, and Tony Stark used its research for J.A.R.V.I.S. and Ultron.
