Wakhri Lands Distribution Deals for France, U.K., Australia and Brazil
Pakistan's Wakhri will roll out in cinemas in France in October and join Channel 4's 2026 South Asian Film Season in the U.K. and Ireland.
Wakhri has secured distribution in France, the U.K. and Ireland, Australia and Brazil, with releases rolling out this fall, according to Variety.
In France, the film will be released in cinemas in October through Salon Indien. In the U.K. and Ireland, it is part of Channel 4's 2026 South Asian Film Season and will be available on the broadcaster in October.
SBS has acquired Wakhri for Australia, and Filmicca has acquired it for Brazil. More territories are expected to follow in the coming months, including North America.
Wakhri stars first-time leads Faryal Mehmood as Noor and Gulshan Majeed as Gucchi. Iram Parveen Bilal wrote, directed and co-produced the film.
The film draws on the story of Qandeel Baloch, who was murdered by her brother in 2016 for bringing dishonor on the family through online posts.
Bilal is also a producer on Pakistan's Dancers, which is currently participating in the Busan International Film Festival's Asian Project Market.
