Guitar Wolf to Headline Takeuchi Tetsuro's 'Wild Zero Overdrive'

The Japan-Canada project, a follow-up to Takeuchi's 1999 film Wild Zero, is being pitched to industry professionals at the Tokyo Gap-Financing Market.

Director Takeuchi Tetsuro's Japan-Canada project Wild Zero Overdrive, headlined by the punk band Guitar Wolf, is being presented at this year's Tokyo Gap-Financing Market, according to Variety. Casting on the film is underway.

The film is a follow-up to Takeuchi's 1999 Wild Zero, and the director said he is using the original as a template while updating it for the present day. He said he wants to convey the heat of raw, primal punk rock in the age of AI.

The project is produced by Takegei Company Limited, with Toronto-based producer Takabatake Aki involved. The team will pitch the project to industry professionals at TGFM / Frontières Tokyo.

Takeuchi is assembling the budget with his own money as a base and is also looking for distribution partners. The producers are seeking further financing, Japanese and international distributors, and international sales agents.

An original that found a following abroad

Takeuchi directed the original Wild Zero in 1999. Takabatake has been a fan of the film since its 1999 release and named her dog Ace after its main character; she met the new film's cinematographer by chance in Toronto while working on a commercial.
