Nepali Film 'Shirjara: Song of Grandmother' Seeks Final $44,000 in Tokyo

The film has wrapped principal photography and is pitching at the Tokyo Gap-Financing Market for finishing funds, Japanese partners and international sales.

Nepali feature "Shirjara: Song of Grandmother" has completed principal photography and is being presented at the Tokyo Gap-Financing Market to raise the final $44,000 needed to finish the film, according to Variety.

Directed by Bikash Subedi, the film is described as a speculative drama that moves between traditional high Himalayan culture and a modern world shaped by technology. It was shot at an altitude of about 4,000 meters in Dhorpatan, Nepal, on an Arri Alexa 35, and an 80-minute rough cut already exists.

The total budget is $296,000. Producer Subash Bhusal's Kingdom Network Pvt. Ltd. has raised and spent 85% of that sum, leaving a 15% gap. The remaining money is earmarked for DI color grading, picture finishing, the master DCP and a custom six-minute AI and VFX sequence tied to Subedi's AnI Cinema concept, short for Ancestral Intelligence.

In Tokyo the team is looking for Japanese co-production and post-production partners, a sales company to handle international rights, and distributors across Asia. The filmmakers aim to launch the film at Cannes in 2027.

Subedi is also developing a further AnI Cinema project about ancient trans-Himalayan trade routes and memory across time.
