Amazon About You Page Draws Scrutiny Over Odd Conclusions
A Threads post about Amazon's About You page saying a user 'has flat buttocks' was picked up by TechCrunch, drawing attention to the personal data page.
Amazon's About You page drew public attention on Tuesday after a Threads post describing its conclusions was picked up by TechCrunch, according to CNET.
A Threads user reported that her Amazon About You page said she "has flat buttocks," alongside other conclusions about her purchases. The page lists facts the company gathered from a customer's purchases.
Customers can view the About You page in the Amazon app by tapping the person icon, then shopping preferences, then about you. On desktop, users hover over the account greeting, click account, and select your shopping preferences under ordering and shopping preferences.
An Amazon representative pointed to an article published in May on Amazon's news site that shows and explains the preferences page.
CNET Editor-in-Chief David Katzmaier said his Amazon About You page claimed he owns a goldfish named Ziggy, but he has no fish with that name. Katzmaier said his child changed one of their Alexa smart speakers' wake words to "Ziggy."
