Amazon in Talks to Buy AI Startup Decart for $7 Billion, WSJ Reports

The Wall Street Journal says Amazon is negotiating a roughly $7 billion deal for Decart, whose software lets developers move workloads between different AI chips.

Amazon is negotiating to acquire artificial intelligence startup Decart for about 7 billion US dollars, according to The Wall Street Journal, which cited people familiar with the matter. The terms and structure of any deal have not been disclosed, and the talks may still fall through.

Decart develops technology that helps developers switch software between different AI chips, a capability that matters as companies try to avoid tying their workloads to a single hardware vendor.

Amazon's cloud unit, AWS, gave Decart early access to its Trainium 3 chips in 2025. AWS has been building out the Trainium line to compete in a market for AI accelerators led by Nvidia.

Earlier interest from Anthropic

In August, Bloomberg reported that Decart was in talks for a 6 billion US dollar sale to Anthropic. Decart was co-founded in 2023 by Israeli engineers Dean Leitersdorf, Orian Leitersdorf and Moshe Shalev, and in May its valuation reached about 4 billion US dollars. According to PitchBook, the company has raised more than 400 million US dollars in venture funding from Sequoia Capital, Benchmark and Radical Ventures.
