Anthropic signs 20-year Canada data center lease with EverWind
The Point Tupper facility in Nova Scotia is Anthropic's first data center contract in Canada and is targeted to start operating by the end of 2027.
Anthropic has signed a 20-year lease with developer EverWind for data center capacity in Point Tupper, Nova Scotia, the company's first data center contract in Canada. The contract value was not disclosed.
EverWind plans to invest more than CAD 10 billion in the project: CAD 8 billion for the data center campus and CAD 2 billion for onshore wind power. The site is targeted to begin operation by the end of 2027 with an initial power demand of 95 MW, rising to 420 MW after 325 MW is added in mid-2028.
Anthropic will use the capacity for Claude services and to meet Canadian demand. According to aitimes.com, Canada is the sixth-largest country for Claude usage worldwide.
Jacob Glick, Anthropic Canada's public policy lead, said the company will protect electricity ratepayers and water resources and ensure local communities benefit.
Japan talks reach final stage
The Canadian deal follows a series of infrastructure commitments. In October 2026, Anthropic signed its first data center contract in Australia, and later that month a 7-year, 11.6 billion dollar cloud services contract with Akamai. In the US, the company reportedly agreed to spend 45 billion dollars to lease AI compute at a West Virginia campus.
In Japan, Nikkei reported on the 13th that Anthropic is in final-stage talks with NTT Data on its first dedicated data center there, planned for Osaka. Construction costs could reach up to 1 trillion yen (about 6.3 billion dollars), with capacity for up to 500 MW of power and partial operation possible as early as 2028. The two companies aim to sign by the end of March next year, when fiscal 2026 ends.
