Apple unveils Home Collection smart devices and HomeView display
Apple launched a smart home lineup codeveloped with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric, plus its first smart display, at a New York event.
Apple launched the Apple Home Collection, a lineup of cameras, thermostats, sensors, a smart door lock and a video doorbell, at a "Welcome home" event held in New York this week, according to The Verge. The devices were codeveloped with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric, and start at $200.
Alongside the collection, Apple introduced HomeView, its first smart display. The company positions HomeView as a way into the smart home, with support for music playback, guided cooking recipes and calendar checking.
Apple is also partnering with ADT through Apple retail stores to help customers install the devices, the company said.
A different approach for Apple
Apple has offered HomeKit for 12 years, but its smart home ecosystem remained less developed than those of Amazon and Google, which support more products and run their own in-house brands Ring and Nest. Until now, Apple Home worked like a buffet: users picked devices from any brand that supported HomeKit or Matter, the interoperable open standard Apple helped found.
