Apple faces mixed reactions to HomeView ad showing family chaos
The three-minute spot drew criticism from analyst Benedict Evans, who called it confusing, while CNET's Bridget Carey called it Apple's most realistic ad yet.
Apple has released a roughly three-minute advertisement for its HomeView smart display, a spot that depicts a chaotic family morning routine and has drawn divided reactions online, according to digitaltoday.co.kr.
The ad shows a father making French toast, a mother searching for keys, siblings arguing over a thermostat and a son spraying whipped cream directly into his mouth. It also includes a video call from grandparents and ends with the family watching a security camera view of the daughter leaving with her boyfriend.
Technology analyst Benedict Evans said the video is confusing and stressful, while CNET editor Bridget Carey said it matches her own mornings and called it Apple's most realistic ad.
The Verge noted that the most unrealistic scene was that no family member was holding an iPhone, and also questioned the daughter checking her boyfriend's message on a shared screen and a power cable hole in the middle of the kitchen.
HomeView has a 7-inch screen and supports video calls, messages, schedule checking and smart home device control. It is priced at $299 in the US and launches on November 13. It will first launch in eight countries including the US, UK and Canada; South Korea is not in the first launch group.
