Apple's HomeView smart display launches November 13 for $299
Apple announced its HomeView smart display, which uses camera-based facial recognition and requires a registered Apple Intelligence-enabled device to recognize users.
Apple announced its HomeView smart display on the morning of October 13, 2026. The device is available to pre-order today for $299 and will be released on November 13.
Apple says HomeView can recognize up to six different people to deliver a personalized experience for each user. The display does not include FaceID and relies on a Center Stage camera for facial recognition. Apple representatives said the home is presumed to be a safe space, which is why camera-based recognition is used.
According to John Gruber at Daring Fireball, a user must have a registered personal device with Apple Intelligence support to be recognized by HomeView. That registered device must be on the home's Wi-Fi network and have been recently unlocked. The Apple Watch does not count as a registered personal device for facial recognition.
A HomeView press release footnote states personal context requests require a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad running the latest software version with Siri AI turned on and set to a supported language. Users must be recognized by voice or face using a registered personal device that supports Apple Intelligence and Siri AI.
