Apple Details 35+ New Shortcuts Actions in iOS 27

Apple has published detailed notes on what's new for the Shortcuts app in iOS 27 and its companion releases. The update brings more than 35 new and improved actions and automations, according to the company's documentation.

The Messages app gains a substantial set of new actions, including Send Tapback, Mark as Read, Delete Messages, Delete Conversations, Open Inbox, and Search in Messages. Send Message now supports sending to group chats, and Find Message can filter by sender.

Reminders users get Edit List, Create Groups, Delete Groups, Create Section, and Delete Sections. Photos adds Favorite Photos, Hide Photos, Auto Enhance Photos, Find Albums, Delete Albums, and Open Photo. New VPN actions include Get Current VPN and Find VPNs, while Shortcuts Storage gains Get Stored Content, Store Content, Delete Stored Content, and Add Item to List.

Apple Intelligence is woven in through the Use Model action, which now supports enhanced Apple Intelligence models and can pull up-to-date information from the web. The If action adds Otherwise If for more complex logic, and Create Note and Append Text to Note now support Markdown, with Append Text to Note able to target a specific section of a note.

Other improvements include Get What's On Screen returning more structured information, Extract Text From Image handling tables and lists, and Scan QR or Barcode processing files directly on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. Set Volume can now control Alarms, Timers, and System Sounds on iOS and iPadOS, Get Network Details supports Ethernet interfaces, and Location can reference home and work on iOS, iPadOS, and visionOS. Get Travel Time adds Avoid Tolls and Avoid Highways options. Three new automations arrive in iOS 27: Notifications, Keyboard, and Screenshot.
