Apple raises MacBook Neo education price to $649

The education store price for the budget laptop is now $50 below the regular $699 starting price, per The Verge.

Apple raised the education store starting price of the MacBook Neo to 649 dollars on October 28, 2026, up from 599 dollars, a 50 dollar increase, according to The Verge.

The move leaves only a 50 dollar gap between the education price and the regular starting price of 699 dollars.

The 649 dollar base configuration comes with 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM and does not support Touch ID.

The laptop's education price is now 150 dollars higher than it was at launch. The MacBook Neo arrived in March 2026 with an education starting price of 499 dollars as a key selling point, and Apple raised that price to 599 dollars in June, a 100 dollar increase.

The same month, the regular consumer starting price rose from 599 dollars to 699 dollars, and prices of several other products, including the iPad, also went up. Apple attributed the earlier increases to rising memory chip costs caused by RAM and storage chip shortages.
