Apple unveils touch-enabled MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR display
The new MacBook Pro is Apple's first laptop with touch input, and it also gets a rear-exhaust cooling design and a new iPad mini joins it.
Apple announced a new MacBook Pro featuring a new body design and an OLED-based display branded "PROLED XDR," according to watch.impress.co.jp. The company also announced a new iPad mini at the same time.
The laptop is the first MacBook Pro to support touch input. In a detail tied to that change, its menus change width depending on whether they are clicked with a mouse or tapped with a finger.
The new model also moves heat exhaust to the rear of the body for the first time, rather than out the front of the display. Apple says the machine automatically detects display shake during video calls and cancels the resulting image blur.
Apple's Genlock support, a synchronization system whose full name is Generator Lock, covers the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, the Mac mini with M5 Pro, the Mac Studio with M5 Max or M5 Ultra, and the MacBook Pro with M5 Pro or M5 Max.
Background
In past years Apple had made negative comments about bringing touch to the Mac. The current MacBook Pro model remains on sale alongside the new one.
