The new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models feature a tandem OLED PROLED XDR display and a Dynamic Island, with pre-orders starting October 30 and release on November 6.
Apple announced a new MacBook Pro lineup that includes a touchscreen, the first Mac laptop to offer touch input, according to digitaltoday.co.kr. The lineup comes in 14-inch and 16-inch models, with pre-orders starting October 30 and general release on November 6.
The new MacBook Pro uses Apple's PROLED XDR Display, which is based on tandem OLED technology with two self-emitting pixel layers. The display supports up to 2000 nits brightness, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and a variable refresh rate of 10-120Hz. It also covers the P3 and Adobe RGB color spaces. Touch input works in apps including Pixelmator Pro, Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro.
For the first time on a Mac, a Dynamic Island feature appears, offering Spotlight search, live status, notifications and Siri AI. The laptop is powered by M5 Pro or M5 Max chips, with up to 128GB unified memory and up to 16TB SSD storage. Apple says the M5 Max model can run large language models with hundreds of billions of parameters on-device.
The 14-inch model weighs 1.38kg and the 16-inch model weighs 1.82kg. Battery life is up to 24 hours, with fast charging reaching up to 50% in 30 minutes. Ports include three Thunderbolt 5, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe charging and a headphone jack. The laptop supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, and can drive up to three external displays with the M5 Pro or four with the M5 Max. It supports Touch ID but not Face ID or built-in cellular connectivity. The audio system has six speakers with Dolby Atmos spatial audio and studio-grade microphones.
The operating system is macOS 27 Golden Gate with Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features. Prices start at 4.79 million won for the 14-inch model and 5.59 million won for the 16-inch model; M5 Max models start at 7.59 million and 8.09 million won respectively. The enclosure uses 100% recycled aluminum and the battery uses 100% recycled cobalt, with 55% of total materials recycled.
