Automattic interim CFO Jeremy Klaperman leaves after less than a month
Automattic confirmed Klaperman's departure; sources say he was demoted back to his VIP Enterprise role before deciding to go.
Jeremy Klaperman has left his role as Automattic's interim chief financial officer less than a month after taking the position, the company confirmed. Klaperman was promoted to interim CFO from his post as CFO of Automattic's VIP Enterprise business unit.
Automattic director of communications Megan Fox said in a statement that Klaperman had departed. Sources told TechCrunch the decision to leave came after he was demoted back to his original VIP role.
The change is the latest in a series of leadership moves at the company behind WordPress.com. In September, Automattic's board voted to put CEO Matt Mullenweg on leave, and within 33 hours Mullenweg retook the CEO role and the board was wiped clean.
Mark Davies had briefly become Automattic's CFO after that September board decision, while chief legal officer Andy Missan also left the company; both had signed reciprocal severance deals. Automattic announced a new board of directors in late September, including Hugh Howey, Henry Khachatryan, Krutal Desai and Amy Chan.
When announcing Klaperman's interim CFO appointment on Slack last month, Mullenweg said he had 100% confidence in the company's cash and financial position.
