Avalanche Founder Warns AI Could Find Hidden Zero-Day Bugs in XRP Ledger
Emin Gün Sirer says AI models may locate system-level flaws in Ripple's code before quantum computing breaks ECDSA, per digitaltoday.co.kr.
Avalanche founder Emin Gün Sirer warned that artificial intelligence could find hidden zero-day vulnerabilities in the XRP Ledger and other blockchain software, according to digitaltoday.co.kr.
In a post on X, Sirer said AI models are capable of locating bugs in blockchain software, libraries and crypto wallets that humans often miss. He argued that AI will exploit system-level vulnerabilities long before the ECDSA cryptographic standard becomes obsolete.
Sirer added that he believes zero-day bugs exist in Ripple's code that are difficult for humans to detect but easy for AI to uncover.
Background
On September 25, XRP Ledger developers released an emergency software update, initially without disclosing the source code of the security fix. Separately, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has warned that AI-based mathematical discoveries could challenge lattice-based cryptographic assumptions within two years, while Ethereum researcher Justin Drake has also expressed concern that AI could someday attack ECDSA. Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson dismissed such concerns as speculative.
