Busan Unveils Seven Multilingual City Brand Fonts
Busan Metropolitan City introduced the Busan Dandi Font, developed by Yoon Design, supporting 813 extended Latin characters and free to download.
Busan Metropolitan City has unveiled seven multilingual city brand fonts called the Busan Dandi Font, developed by typography company Yoon Design. According to datanet.co.kr, it is the first multi-language municipal font in South Korea.
The fonts support 813 extended Latin characters covering around 100 Latin-script languages and 130 countries. Hangul support covers all 11,172 characters.
Three Gothic and three Myeongjo styles share the same skeleton and are aligned to public document standards, usable for titles, body text, signage and screens without horizontal scaling. The handwriting style was created through a citizen contest, with Yoon Design analyzing the handwriting habits and stroke flow of the winning entry.
The body fonts were completed after reflecting a preference survey of 11,352 citizens and expert opinions.
The Busan Dandi Font can be downloaded free from the Busan City Hall website and Yoon Design's font platform FONCO. Busan plans to distribute usage manuals covering report formats, commendations, guide signs, banners, festival posters and YouTube subtitles.
In March, Busan held a citizen font contest to collect handwriting containing the city slogan.
