Cardano Card to End Service on October 31, 2026, as Wirex Partnership Closes

The card's operator told users the card works normally until the termination date and urged them to prepare for the shutdown schedule.

The Cardano Card, a Visa-based multi-chain cryptocurrency payment card in the Cardano (ADA) ecosystem, will end its service on October 31, 2026 (local time), according to digitaltoday.co.kr. The card program's partnership with Wirex ends on the same date.

The card's operating account notified users that the card can be used normally until the service termination date and urged them to prepare according to the termination schedule. The termination is a measure resulting from a change in business direction by Wirex, the card program's partner.

Wirex plans to end its existing custodial infrastructure and switch to a non-custodial model. Replacement services for the program will be announced in the future, and the operating side said it wants to first hear the opinions of card holders, adding that details about the next stage of the program will be disclosed soon.

As of now, a replacement card, a new service provider, or the introduction of another payment method has not been confirmed.

Background

The Cardano Card was launched in November 2025 through a partnership between Emurgo and Wirex. At launch, it was integrated into the Wirex app and operated in a structure accessible to over 6 million users across 130 countries, with support for payments in more than 685 types of cryptocurrency including ADA, Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDC, and spending at merchants supporting Visa. It also provided DeFi functions such as loans and yield-generating services.

In July 2026, Emurgo announced it would step down from its role as a member of Pentad, a joint governance structure of five Cardano core organizations, stating it would focus on the SecondFi recovery procedure. Input Output, Cardano Foundation, Intersect and Midnight Foundation remained in Pentad after that.
