Chomolgi to debut XR archery booth at Korea Military Academy
The startup's screen-based gungung system measures real arrow speed and angle with two high-speed cameras, and its Seupsa Ilji app launches at the same event.
Chomolgi, a South Korean startup, said it will set up its first booth at a university gungung competition at Hwarangjeong of the Korea Military Academy in late October and officially launch its Seupsa Ilji app there, according to it.donga.com.
The system uses XR screens to recreate traditional Korean archery. Two custom high-speed cameras and triangulation measure the real speed and angle of each arrow, and a ballistic simulation accounting for gravity and air resistance calculates the flight trajectory. An AI algorithm then analyses the result and displays it across a multi-screen virtual environment.
The company plans to open a directly operated store next year and to expand nationwide through franchising from 2028.
Chomolgi is also developing content that recreates historical sites in virtual spaces, drawn from regional stories in major tourist destinations, along with hunting-game content.
From a graduation project to a business
Chomolgi was founded in August last year, according to the article. CEO Choi Seung-ju encountered gungung as an undergraduate software major through a university archery club and developed the screen archery idea from his graduation project. Incheon National University has run a Sports Industry Startup Support Center since 2017 and has supported more than 120 sports industry startups.
