CircuitHub to quintuple PCB capacity as demand outruns output
The US circuit board maker says its robotic The Grid system will scale sharply this year, with a further expansion planned for 2027.
CircuitHub plans to quintuple its manufacturing capacity this year and add another large increase in 2027, saying demand already exceeds what it can build, according to techradar.com.
The US circuit board manufacturer runs a robotic production system called The Grid, which makes printed circuit boards for companies working with different electronic designs. Levitating transport platforms carry boards between stations for solder paste application, component placement, heating, soldering and automated inspection. Machine learning models, AI agents and optimisation software coordinate the equipment.
Because each board follows its own route through the factory, 100 different designs can be processed in much the same way as 100 copies of a single design. In an example cited by the company, five assembled motor-controller boards cost $630 through The Grid with four-day delivery in the US. The same order in Shenzhen comes to about $465 after shipping and US import tariffs, with a median delivery time of nine days.
CircuitHub says its customers include a major electric vehicle manufacturer and a leading AI laboratory.
Five years of commercial operation
According to the company, The Grid has run commercially for five years and generates tens of millions of dollars in annual electronics manufacturing activity. CircuitHub reports having delivered more than 2.2 million circuit boards, installed over 150 million components and served 26,000 engineers.
