Korea's rare disease food support system has run stably since July, with eligible adults able to order up to 1,248 units of Hatbahn Low-Protein Rice per year.

CJ CheilJedang announced that its special food purchase support system for rare disease patients, which supplies Hatbahn Low-Protein Rice at 1,700 won per unit, has been operating stably since July, according to inews24.com.

Under the program, patients aged 19 and older with congenital metabolic disorders can order up to 1,248 units per year through quarterly pre-orders.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency estimates the system saves between 8.48 million and 14.1 million won per patient per year. The program involves the Korea Rare and Intractable Disease Association.

Domestic supply replaces costly imports

CJ CheilJedang has produced Hatbahn Low-Protein Rice since 2009, and cumulative production has reached about 3 million units. Before the support system, adult patients had to buy expensive overseas products or pay premiums online because domestic supply was insufficient.
