Cloudflare CEO warns AI flaw discovery will bring years of alarm

Matthew Prince told Reuters that more severe vulnerabilities than the PHP flaws exist in other critical software, and AI is speeding up their discovery.

Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince told Reuters that more severe vulnerabilities exist in other pieces of critical software beyond the recently exploited PHP flaws, and that AI-accelerated discovery will keep security teams under pressure for roughly a couple of years.

Prince said he expects about two years in which each week will feel like the sky is falling as newly identified flaws surface. The flood of findings should eventually lead to more secure software once the issues are patched, he added.

Wiz Research, which helped find the PHP exploits, said frontier AI models let it build and adapt working exploits across multiple applications in hours. The firm wrote that the economics of both discovery and exploitation have changed.

Outages as PHP flaws were addressed

This week, government websites, game marketplaces and other sites went offline while newly found PHP vulnerabilities were addressed. PHP is used by roughly 70% of the world's websites, according to some estimates.
