CNET starts iPhone Duo durability test, livestream set for Monday
CNET bought an iPhone Duo in Louisville and loaded it into its Fold-a-Phone machine, with a YouTube livestream of the testing planned for Monday.
CNET began durability testing of the iPhone Duo in its custom Fold-a-Phone machine on Friday and announced it will livestream the testing on YouTube on Monday from 1–5 p.m. ET, according to CNET. The outlet bought the phone at an Apple store in Louisville, Kentucky, on Friday after waiting more than three hours.
The Fold-a-Phone is also already being used to test the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8. Each test cycle takes about 4 seconds: 1 second to open, 1 second to fully open, 1 second to close and 1 second to fully close.
Apple has not publicly shared claims about the iPhone Duo's foldable lifespan. CNET's Abrar Al-Heeti, a senior technology reporter, has already published a review of the iPhone Duo.
CNET's team spent months overseeing the methodology and build of the Fold-a-Phone rig in anticipation of Apple's long-rumored foldable iPhone. In 2019, the outlet first demoed a trifold accordion-style foldable phone from Motorola and other phone-makers.
Background
In September 2019, the first Samsung Galaxy Fold went on sale in the US. Most current foldable phones are rated for 200,000 to 500,000 folds.
