Colt to launch lower-latency Tokyo–Osaka network in spring 2027
Colt Technology Services says its new Tokyo–Osaka route cuts latency by about 30% versus its two existing backbone paths, with 25Tbps of initial capacity.
Colt Technology Services announced on October 15, 2026 a new corporate network connection service linking Tokyo and Osaka with lower latency, according to ascii.jp. The service is planned to launch in spring 2027 with an initial total transmission capacity of 25Tbps.
Colt claims the new route reduces latency by about 30% compared with its two existing Tokyo–Osaka backbone routes. The company said the new service is aimed at corporate customers that need faster links between the two metropolitan areas.
The service will run alongside Colt's current Tokyo–Nagoya–Osaka backbone, which the company refers to as the mountain route and the sea route. A product manager at Colt responsible for the new service presented the plan.
Western Japan expansion continues
In early 2027, Colt plans to expand bandwidth on its existing Tokyo–Nagoya–Osaka route and to complete its western Japan backbone extension from Osaka through Okayama and Hiroshima to Fukuoka/Kitakyushu.
Colt has been working on extending its backbone into western Japan since 2023. Its metro area networks cover more than 40 countries and 52 cities, with fiber connections to over 1,100 data centers and more than 32,000 commercial buildings.
