Daehan Electric Secures 11,000-Ton Cable Laying Vessel Skandi Connector
The South Korean cable maker adds the Skandi Connector to its fleet, enabling a two-track submarine cable installation system alongside the 7,000-ton Palos.
Daehan Electric has secured the 11,000-ton cable laying vessel (CLV) Skandi Connector, adding a second ship to its installation fleet, according to etnews.com. The vessel joins the company's existing 7,000-ton CLV Palos.
With the two vessels, Daehan Electric said it can operate a two-track installation system, selecting the appropriate ship based on project scale and marine conditions.
The company also incorporated Daehan Ocean Works, a subsidiary specializing in submarine cable installation, to support its offshore operations.
As part of its capacity expansion, Daehan Electric is building a second submarine cable plant in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province, with completion targeted for 2027.
The Dangjin plant will feature a 187-meter VCV tower capable of producing submarine cables up to 640kV HVDC and 400kV HVAC.
Previously, the company operated the 7,000-ton Palos as its submarine cable installation ship.
