Dahua unveils Super AI Coding, claims 50% cut in video storage and bandwidth
Dahua Technology says its Super AI Coding uses adaptive bitrate, region-of-interest and brightness-aware encoding to reduce storage and bandwidth versus H.265.
Dahua Technology announced Super AI Coding, an intelligent video encoding technology that it says can reduce storage space and transmission bandwidth by up to 50% each compared with H.265 encoding, according to datanet.co.kr.
Instead of compressing every frame uniformly, the technology allocates data to key objects and important scenes while reducing data use in less important areas. Dahua noted that actual savings may vary depending on the scene, encoding settings and operating environment.
Super AI Coding applies three adaptive encoding techniques. ABR dynamically adjusts the bitrate according to scene complexity. ROI distinguishes main subjects from the background and prioritizes preserving the subject's image quality. BAE optimizes the bitrate to lighting conditions, maintaining the required quality at night while cutting unnecessary data.
Dahua said the technology is suited to facilities such as shopping malls and museums, where movement and scene complexity vary by time of day.
Quick answers
How much storage and bandwidth can Super AI Coding save?
Dahua says it can reduce storage space and transmission bandwidth by up to 50% each compared with H.265, though actual savings depend on the scene, encoding settings and operating environment.
What are the three adaptive encoding techniques in Super AI Coding?
The technology uses ABR, which adjusts bitrate by scene complexity; ROI, which prioritizes main subjects over the background; and BAE, which optimizes bitrate to lighting conditions.
